Applications for a school place for September 2018
Welcome Meeting Thursday, 2nd November 7.00-8pm

We would like to invite any parents with a child due to start school in September 2018 to come to our Welcome Meeting. This is an opportunity for parents to find out more about our school and the application process. The evening will include a tour of the school and you will have the opportunity meet our staff and ask any questions you may have. There is no need to book, just come along on the night. You will also be able to sign up for a visit to the school during the day.


If your child was born during the period 1 September 2013 to 31 August 2014, you can apply for your child to attend Holt Farm Infant School. Your child will be entitled to start school from the September of the academic year 2018/19.

It is the responsibility of parents to make an application for their child’s primary school place. It is not necessary to wait to receive an application form or letter in the post. From 13th November 2017 you can access information and apply online or apply using a paper form.  

The closing date for applications is 15 January 2018.

All parents who are seeking a place at primary, infant or junior school in Essex must apply to Essex School Admissions. This is done by completing the Common Application Form (CAF) on line or by completing the form and sending it to Essex County Council by the closing date.

Information packs will be sent directly to parents together with information about the schools in their area during the Autumn term.   Parents may apply for up to three schools in preference order. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2018. Every eligible Essex resident, as far as practicable, will be offered a single Essex school place in April 2018.

Visits during the school day

Arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher, who will be pleased to meet parents, show them the school, answer questions and provide further information. 

Induction Dates 2018

During the summer term there will be a series of meetings arranged to introduce parents and children to our school. The parents will meet the Reception teachers one to one to talk about their child. The children will visit the classroom to meet their teacher and the other children in their class.

5th July 5.30 - 7.30 Open Evening

Tuesday 17th July 11-11.45 Taster session for all children to stay and play without parents. Information session for parents in the hall with Mr Goodier

Wednesday 5th - Friday 7th September - children will attend part-time mornings only 9:00 - 12:00

Monday 10th September - children start full time 9:00 - 3.10

Admissions Policy

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area. In the event of
oversubscription places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given:
1. Looked After Children
2. Children with a sibling attending the school or the partner junior school;
3. Children living in the priority admission area;
4. Remaining applications.
In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by
straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Starting School

Children are legally entitled to a place in school at the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday.  The local authority has adopted a general policy however whereby children can be admitted full time from the September before the child's 5th birthday.

Parents can however request that their child attends part time until the child reaches compulsary school age.

If you would like your child to attend part-time at Holt Farm Infant School the arrangements are as follows:

  • If your child was born between 1st. September and 31st December he/she will start school full-time at the beginning of the Autumn Term (the term during which they have their 5th birthday).

  • If your child was born between 1st January and 30th April he/she will be offered a full-time place from September or you may choose to have a part-time place in school at the beginning of the Autumn Term and become full time after the October half-term.

  • If your child was born between 1st May and 31st August he/she will be offered a full time place in September or you may choose to have a part-time place in school at the beginning of the Autumn Term and become full time from January.
