SCIENCE
This is Mrs Fisher, our Science Lead,
she is delighted to share our approach to Scienceacross the school.
Our aim is to inspire a love of Science and nurture curious, inquisitive and enquiring minds. We want our children to develop a sense of wonder about the world around them, while building the knowledge, vocabulary and skills they need to ask questions, investigate ideas and make sense of what they observe.
In Reception, Science begins with exploring and discovering the world around us. Through play, observation and hands-on experiences, children investigate plants, animals, materials, seasons and the world around them. We encourage children to notice changes, ask questions and share their ideas.
Throughout Key Stage 1, children continue to develop their scientific understanding through practical investigations and purposeful experiences. They learn to observe closely, identify patterns, compare and classify, make predictions and carry out simple tests. We place a strong emphasis on children talking about their ideas, using scientific vocabulary and learning from what they discover.
Above all, we want our children to see themselves as scientists — curious, confident and willing to ask questions, explore possibilities and find out more about the world around them.
