‘Happy, Friendly, Incredible, Safe’

Amethyst Class

What Your Child Needs To Bring To School

Please can your child bring a named water bottle each day and their book bag.

All pencils, pens and other stationery are provided individually for each child.

Reading organisation

We would encourage your child to change their reading books 2/3 times a week. The children will be given time to choose a book from the library within their reading band.  We will endeavour to hear your child read individually each week.  The teacher will hear your child read a book from their reading level which may not be the books they read at home. The teacher will sign to show your child has been heard read. Please could write down the title of the books read at home and write a short comment to tell us how they are doing. When children move up a level in reading they will receive a special sticker from Mr Goodier.

Comprehension

In the new year your child will receive a weekly comprehension sheet to complete at home to help them practice their comprehension skills.

Maths

In year 2 the children are split into ability groups for maths on a Wednesday morning. Your child will bring a maths activity home each week to complete for the next week. This doesn’t need to be returned to school.

PE Days & Organisation

Amethyst Class have PE on Fridays and Wednesdays.  Please would you send children into school wearing their PE kit on these days.  They do not need to change into uniform on PE days.  Please note, earrings cannot be worn for PE.

Phonics & spellings

On Mondays to Thursdays, your child will have an ability based phonics lesson to learn new sounds and letters which then help them with reading and writing.  Spellings will be given out each week for children to learn at home and they will be tested on a Thursday.
