WHAT YOUR CHILD NEEDS TO BRING TO SCHOOL

Please can your child bring a named bottle filled with water (NOT squash) each day and also their reading diary in a book bag.

All pencils, pens and other stationery are provided.

PE DAYS & ORGANISATION

Topaz Class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays.  Please would you send children into school wearing their PE kit on these days.  They do not need to change into uniform on PE days.  Please note, earrings cannot be worn for PE so will need to be removed at home.

READING ORGANISATION

We will encourage your child to change their reading books 2/3 times a week. They will be given time to choose a book from the library within their reading band.  We will endeavour to hear your child read individually each week.  This will be a book from their reading level which may not be the books they read at home. We will sign to show your child has been heard read at school. Please could write down the title of the books read at home and write a short comment to tell us how they are doing. When children move up a level in reading they will receive a special sticker from Mr Goodier.

PHONICS & SPELLINGS

On Mondays to Thursdays, your child will have a phonics lesson to consolidate and apply previously learnt sounds and then learn new sounds and letters which then help them with reading and writing.  We will continue to send home their sets of words to read and spell at home until they have completed and learnt all sets from 1-6.

MATHS

In Year 1 the children will have 4 lessons a week which will include practical, mental and application activiites.

RULES & REWARDS

Children have agreed rules for their class.  Children who follow these rules or make a special effort at school, will be rewarded with Dojos. A Dojo champion will be chosen each week and will receive a Dojo certificate. Children can also receive stickers and ‘Well Done’ certificates and, on Fridays, a new Lunchtime Superstar is chosen for each class.

TOPICS

Each half -term the children will be taught about a different topic.  This term the topic is "Through the Keyhole" where we will be looking at houses and homes.
