‘Happy, Friendly, Incredible, Safe’

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we aim to foster in children a love of mathematics and provide them with the necessary support and opportunities to become confident and fluent mathematicians. We structure our curriculum and teaching to enable children to develop a deep understanding of mathematics and be able to explain how they got an answer and why that answer is right.

Teachers follow the learning objectives outlined in the National Curriculum and in KS1 use the White Rose Mathematics Hub schemes of work to support their planning. We aim to teach children to calculate, reason and solve problems and apply their mathematical skills and understanding to solve problems in a range of contexts.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum feeds into the National Curriculum. Teachers use the White Rose Reception resources as a basis for their planning. Children are given opportunities to explore mathematical concepts through play based activities and during teacher led tasks. Where possible, teachers make links between the children’s topics and their Mathematics work.
